His talent extended beyond games, as he also created the intricate and atmospheric backgrounds for the cult TV series Knightmare, a pioneering interactive show that blended fantasy with cutting-edge technology.

David’s artistry helped define the visual aesthetics of both the gaming and TV landscapes during a pivotal era for entertainment.

David originally studied art and honed his skills in traditional painting and illustration. His break into the gaming industry came when his talents were recognised by publishers in the emerging video game market, which was in need of visually compelling artwork for game covers and promotional materials.

His unique ability to create vivid, detailed, and imaginative artwork quickly led him to work on game covers for well-known titles on platforms like the Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum, and Amiga. His early work on game covers such as: Ant Attack; Way of the Exploding Fist and Populous established him as a key figure in the video game industry’s artistic landscape. He also contributed his skills to television, notably designing the iconic backgrounds for the children’s fantasy TV show Knightmare.

David’s traditional art training, combined with his love for science fiction and fantasy, allowed him to thrive in an era where video games were becoming more than just a pastime—they were a visual experience.
